The Cape Town G&S Society presents The Yeomen of the Guard, a Gilbert and Sullivan Opera, at the Artscape Opera House, from Saturday August 10 to Saturday August 17.

The play, set in the Tower of London in the 16th century, concerns Colonel Fairfax, a gentleman, a soldier and scientist, who has been sentenced to be beheaded in an hour on a false charge of sorcery. To avoid leaving his estate to his accuser (a cousin), and with the help of the Lieutenant of the Tower, Fairfax secretly marries Elsie Maynard, a strolling singer.

The plot includes intrigue, comedy and a “tragic” ending.

Performances are on Saturday August 10, at 7.30pm; Sunday August 11, at 2.30pm; Friday August 16, at 7.30pm; and Saturday August 17, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Ticket cost from R225 to R295, with special pricing available for seniors at R200 with a Pick n Pay smart shopper card. Book through Webtickets.
