Police nab three suspected hijackers in Belmont Park

Kraaifontein police have arrested three men for hijacking a courier truck and the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said police had received a tip-off that stolen goods were being delivered to a property in Third Avenue, Belmont Park, on Thursday September 8.

When police arrived, a truck was found idling with no driver in the vehicle.

“It is believed the truck was hijacked in the Ravensmead area,” he said.

Further down the road, police saw a man running towards the Old Paarl Road. They pursued and apprehended the suspect.

This led police to the arrest of another two suspects who were sitting in a parked black VW Touran along the old Paarl Road. Police say they found two loaded guns in the vehicle.
