Steenberg police confiscated a gun and ammunition.
Grassy Park Community Police Forum (CPF) has condemned attacks on police in Parkwood.
This comes after friends and family of a 34-year-old gang leader attacked police after he was arrested on Wednesday November 11 for illegal possession of a gun and ammunition.
Acting on a tip-ff from the community, police had obtained a warrant to search the Parkwood house.
Other charges opened include resisting arrest, assaulting a police official and hindering police in the execution of their duties.
CPF chairperson Melvin Jonkers condemned the attack.
“Police are attacked when they execute their duty to keep our community safe. This seems to happen far too often in Parkwood Estate. We acknowledge with much appreciation and recognise the efforts of law abiding residents of the area in supporting the police in keeping guns and gangsterism off the streets. Our people need to live in a safe environment.”
He added that the terrorising of communities by gangsters must stop and no effort will be spared to ensure that gangsterism ends.
Mr Jonkers also thanked police for their service and encouraged them to continue unabated and with enthusiasm to rid our communities of guns and gangsters.
“We call upon our community to be vigilant and report suspicious activity to the police or even directly to the CPF”.
Meanwhile, on Monday November 9, at about 2.20am, officers from Muizenberg precinct’s Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) responded to information regarding the possible sale and storage of drugs in Vrygrond.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Knapp said the information led them to a residence in Vuyo Road, where after a thorough search of the house, the officers found 100 packets of tik in one of the bedrooms.
A 20-year-old resident was arrested and charged with dealing in narcotics. He appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on the same day.
Lieutenant Colonel Jaques Lourens, acting station commander of Muizenberg police, was pleased with the drug bust and arrest.
He asks the community to continue helping police by providing information on crime and to contact the Muizenberg police station on 021 787 9014/15 or 082 522 1213, where all information will be treated with the strictest confidence.
Steenberg police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said their efforts to root out the possession of unlicensed firearms in communities yielded good results last week.
On Thursday November 13 in Oboe Street, Retreat, at about 11.30pm, officers arrested a 28-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He said the suspect was walking in the street and when he saw the police vehicle approaching he started to run.
“The members gave chase and apprehended the suspect and upon searching him they found him in possession of a P38 9mm firearm with serial filed off and six rounds of ammunition”.
The suspect appeared in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday November 13.
