Crackdown on traffic violations in Bellville CBD
Neighbourhood watches and police manned vehicle checkpoints in Voortrekker Road near the Bellville civic centre.
More than 70 traffic fines to the tune of almost R60 000 were issued to motorists during a crackdown on traffic violations in the Bellville CBD.
Police, the Bellville Community Police Forum, the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District and Oakdale Neighbourhood Watch held the joint operation on Saturday night April 2 with checkpoints in Robert Sobukewe, Belrail and Voortrekker roads.
The Bellville CPF’s Facebook page said that 109 vehicles were stopped and 74 fines to the value of R58 500 were issued.
“Traffic fines were issued for the following reasons: unlicensed vehicles, driving without a licence as well as the failure to display number plates,” said Bellville police sector commander Captain Henry Pienaar.
• In a separate incident, four men found with aluminium cables to the estimated value of R50 000, in Baobab Street, Greenville, on Friday April 1, were arrested for the possession of presumed stolen property, according to Durbanville police spokesman Captain Marchell Rhode.
