City law enforcement officers confiscated this pistol from one of two suspected gangsters they arrested in Scottsdene on Tuesday, according to mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith.

Two suspected gangsters, one of whom allegedly announced that he was on his way “to go and shoot” while carrying a pistol, have been arrested in Scottsdene.

City law enforcement officers stopped the two suspects, aged 16 and 18, in Joseph Avenue on Tuesday May 31, according to mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith.

The officers confiscated a Norinco pistol and ammunition. Two of the rounds were SAPS-issue, according to Mr Smith.

The teens have been charged with the possession of presumed stolen state property and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Preliminary investigations indicated the gun could have been stolen in the rural Joostenbergvlakte area, in 2021, said Mr Smith.

The one suspect when questioned further had said he was on his way “to go and shoot”, said Mr Smith.

The suspects and the gun were handed over to the Kraaifontein police who would send the firearm for ballistic testing to check whether it had been used in the commission of a crime, he said.

Kraaifontein police did not respond to questions by deadline.
