A Letter To My Perpetrator will be launched in Mowbray on Saturday December 10.
A new book, A Letter To My Perpetrator, tells the stories of victims of abuse.
The compilation of letters, poems and accounts from survivors of emotional, physical and sexual abuse, and their loved ones, is published by Haroldene Tshienda.
Latifah Jacobs, the founder of Aurorah Kuils River Community Action Network (CAN) came up with the idea for the book about three years ago. Ms Jacobs’s organisation runs a feeding scheme, literacy programmes and other community development initiatives and she is a member of One Billion Rising SA, which is part of a global organisation fighting gender-based violence.
The book has 45 contributions from survivors both within South Africa, and as far as Lesotho.
Ms Jacobs said she hoped the book would be the first of several volumes telling the stories of abuse survivors around the world.
The book will be launched at Bertha House, 67 Main Road, Mowbray, on Saturday December 10, from 2pm to 4.30pm.
The book will sell for R200. Contact Ms Jacobs at 071 589 3409 if you are interested in buying a copy.
According to Ms Jacobs, survivors who contributed to the book will be able to sell it at cost price to create a source of income for themselves.
