The City unveiled a mural at the Sarepta Recreation Centre in Kuils River on Tuesday morning, marking five months until Cape Town hosts the Netball World Cup from Friday July 28 to Sunday August 6.
The mural is the seventh of 12 murals counting down to the event and follows others done in Langa, Khayelitsha, Strand, Bellville South, Mitchell’s Plain and Atlantis.
The mural by graffiti artist MAK10NE adorns one of the recreation centre’s outside walls.
“We are thrilled to be hosting another women’s sporting event that is a first for Africa. With a large netball community across the city, the netball legacy murals are a means for us to ensure that such a momentous event remains top of mind for our residents and allows local communities to participate and benefit from the legacy of this global tournament,” said mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith.
“The Sarepta Netball Club is one of the oldest registered clubs in the Kuils River area and has developed a number of female and male netball players who have successfully qualified for provincial tours,” he added.
