Police are urging residents in Bellville and Durbanville to be vigilant in light of a spike in vehicle theft plaguing both areas this week.
On Monday February 27, three vehicles were stolen in Durbanville, according to Durbanville police spokesman Captain Marchell Rhode.
“Between 8am and 10am, a 2008 Toyota Corolla station wagon was stolen in Twist Road, O’Kennedyville, Durbanville. At 11am, a silver VW Polo was stolen in Bella Rosa Street, Rosenpark. At Durbanville High School, a blue Yamaha motorcycle was stolen at 2pm.”
A Honda Jazz vehicle was stolen in Tulip street, Amanda Glen, at 7am last Saturday.
Earlier this year, Northern News reported on a spate of Durbanville vehicle thefts mostly targeting VW Polos which could have been masterminded by syndicates, according to the police ("Syndicates suspected in Durbanville VW Polo thefts,“ Northern News, January 19).
“We urge the community to take extra safety measures to secure their vehicles and park them in secure areas. We also suggest fitting their vehicles with alarms and tracker systems,” said Captain Rhode.
Bellville police spokesman Captain Aubrey Morwenyane said three vehicles had been stolen in the area yesterday.
“A white Toyota Corolla sedan and a white Toyota Tazz were stolen at Karl Bremer Hospital between 8am and 4pm. A white Maza 323 sedan was also stolen in Voortrekker Road in front of the Haardekraaltjie Caravan Park between 2pm and 4pm,“ Captain Morwenyane said.
