Two men, including a uniformed security guard, were arrested on Sunday night after being found with a government car, stolen from Kuils River Magistrate’s Court, and an illegal firearm, say police.
The car was found in Nomzamo, a small township in Strand, with the help of a tracking device, said police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk.
Officers followed the car to a shopping mall and ordered the two men inside the vehicle to get out.
“Upon searching them, they found an unlicensed firearm in the possession of the passenger who was still wearing a full security guard uniform,” said Captain Van Wyk.
The men, aged 21 and 38, were arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and another charge, of theft of a motor vehicle, would be added, he said.
