Fisantekraal Animal Welfare is appealing for pet food and people prepared to foster animals.
The non-profit organisation runs an animal clinic in Greenville.
“This is where we treat sick and injured animals and vaccinate them,“ said chairwoman Belinda van Tonder.
Food for cats and dogs could be dropped at any Tygerberg Animal Hospital branch for collection, she said.
“We’re always looking for collars and leashes because owners usually can’t afford them and resort to restraining the animal with a rope. We also need foster homes for unwanted animals. The animals at our clinic are sitting in small cages, and they need a proper home where they can be social and the foster parents can assess how their personality is.”
The organisation runs education drives in Fisantekraal and Greenville about the importance of sterilisation.
“We do sterilisation campaigns on Thursdays and try to educate the community that the more animals we sterilise the less unwanted litters there will be.”
Fifteen volunteers cover Fisantekraal, Greenville, Klipheuwel, Morningstar and surrounding farms in Durbanville.
“We have seven members from Fisantekraal helping us, and at our container, complex which is situated opposite Durbanville police station in Church Street, we have charity shop that takes any unwanted items such as clothing, bedding and furniture.
“We also donate pet food for owners who cannot afford to feed their animals. We would rather donate food and keep the animals at home than taking them away. This was a massive issue during Covid.”
