Two children have survived a fire that gutted their Scottsville home and killed their 48-year-old mother on Monday.
The fire started just after midnight in the family’s Green Street bungalow, according to police.
Kraaifontein police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said police were investigating the incident, and the cause of the fire had yet to be established.
City Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said fire crews from Brackenfell, Kraaifontein and Milnerton extinguished the fire just before 1am.
“There were three persons in the structure. An 8-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl managed to escape the inferno. Their mother unfortunately succumbed to fatal burn wounds.”
A community activist Solly Gordon said the City should consider installing fire alarms in wendy houses.
