Maxine Willemse, 28, of Scottsdene, has won bronze in a karate event at the 2nd African Beach Games being held in Tunisia.
The games, held by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), started on Friday June 23 and end today.
More than 50 countries are competing in 30 events – which include men's and women's beach games – across 16 disciplines.
Ms Willemse said it was an honour and privilege to have participated in the event.
“Being the ambassador of my country was the greatest joy and highlight of the tour. I represented my country with great pride and joy.
“The beach games were a different experience to the normal circumstances we compete in. However, it was fun being in the sun. The atmosphere was different and the vibe was just amazing,” she said.
Ms Willemse won gold in the Karate South Africa National Championship in March and as well as at the South Africa Cape Town League 1 Elite Championship in April.
She has been selected to represent the country at the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK) championships in Morocco in August and said “sponsorship and donations would be appreciated”
Her instructor, Clarence September said: “I am in awe and very proud of her... something good can definitely come out of Scottsdene.”
