Durbanville Children’s Home is asking the public to help seven matrics at the home attend their matric balls in September.
“The community can help by sponsoring/donating dresses, suits, shoes, accessories, make-up artists, nail artists, photographers and car rentals or make a financial donation, to assist with the expenses. We have only received a few donations of dresses/suits thus far,“ said Jessica Evershed, a spokeswoman for the home.
The 140-year-old home supports 144 children from different cultural backgrounds.
“Being an NPO, we only receive 30% of our funding from the government; the other 70% is made up of our events, campaigns, donations, sponsorships and fund-raisers. We want to give our children the same opportunities as their peers, and therefore call on the community to assist us,” Ms Evershed said.
“We believe that a matric dance is a rite of passage and a celebration of achievement for a child.”
