On Tuesday evening, pupils at President High School in Goodwood traded their school uniforms for glitzy evening gowns and suits to strut down the catwalk at the annual Mr and Miss President competition.

Audience members were treated to an evening of fashion, dance, musical performances and an Oscars-style awards ceremony.

Timone Graces, a President High School teacher and one of the pageant coordinators, says the pageant is all about showing your talent and enjoying yourself on stage.

“It's not about who is the prettiest or the strongest. It's about getting in front of the people and just showing who you are, and the crowd will love you either way.”

The Mr and Miss President winners will serve as ambassadors at school events.

Matric pupil Logan Kuhn was crowned Miss President 2023.

“It was surprising winning Miss President now because I was a participant last year and I came Second Princess. It was a very big shock to me that I actually became Miss President,“ she said.

Logan said she had enjoyed meeting new people during the competition.

“We became a family,” she said.

Matric pupil Kian George said he was “stoked“ to have been crowned Mr President 2023.

"Walking on the ramp the first time and seeing the crowd was nerve-wracking but eventually the nerves calmed down,“ he said.

"When I looked in my mommy's eyes, I knew I wanted to make her proud, and that's what I did. I am so grateful for the opportunity."

He said he enjoyed the adrenalin spike he got stepping out of his comfort zone.

"My dad told me, ‘Before you go on stage just pray,“ and that's what I did, and what can I say, God does miracles and he answers prayers. I am completely grateful being chosen."
