Speed humps for Brackenfell, Eikendal streets

The City has given the green light to speed humps in Groenewoud Street, Brackenfell, and 5th Avenue, in Eikendal.

Three other requests for traffic-calming measures were rejected, according to a report by City traffic engineering technician Akhona Masek, contained in the agenda of a Sub-council 2 meeting on Wednesday.

City policy prioritises traffic-calming to protect vulnerable road users near public facilities such as schools and clinics, so the daycare and school in Groenewoud Street meant there was reason to support a speed hump in that road, and two humps were recommended for 5th Avenue, next to a school there, said the report.

Requests for traffic calming in Eben Olivier and Vivaldi streets in Brackenfell did not meet City criteria as they had no schools or public amenities.

And a request for traffic calming on the corner of Station Street and 9th Avenue in Belmont Park was rejected because although there is a school in 9th Avenue, there is already traffic calming nearby.
