City staff will be at the Northdene Hall on Tuesday next week, from 10am to 3pm, to help struggling Scottsdene residents who want to apply for indigent relief. Households with a monthly income of R7500 or less are eligible for support including debt write-offs, 15 kilolitres of free water, up to 60 free electricity units and rates discounts. Indigent residents must re-apply for the status annually, but it is valid for those who are 60 or older until the next municipal property valuation takes effect. Applicants must provide an ID or passport, three months of bank statements or a sworn affidavit stating that they do not have a bank account, a bond statement for the last three months, and a copy of the estate documents if the applicant has inherited his or her house.
