Children’s home to celebrate 140 years with carnival

Durbanville Children’s Home will celebrate its 140th birthday with a fund-raising carnival for the children and staff this year.

Rides, game stalls, food stalls and loads of other entertainment are planned for the event on Saturday October 28, says the home's spokeswoman, Jessica Evershed.

“We are asking the public to celebrate our 140th birthday with us this month by donating R140 for 140 years of care. All proceeds will go towards our children’s urgent needs such as toiletries, school supplies, school uniforms, and food parcels (for the children to take back home when visiting family),” she said.

The children's home has 12 housing units with 12 children in each, and it is appealing to the public to support its adopt-a-home project and once a year donate items to create a nurturing environment in each unit.

Another project is raising public support for kitchen revamps in each of the housing units.

While the carnival won't be open to the public, members of the public are welcome to host a stall or advertise their business on the day.
