A City official has given the green light for speed humps in some Bloekombos and Belmont Park roads.

The City’s traffic engineering technician, Akhona Maseko has recommended that three speed humps be installed in Daza Street, in Bloekombos, as it was a high-risk location based on crash data that showed there had been 20 crashes there over a seven-year period. Four of those crashes had involved pedestrians, with serious injuries recorded in three of those crashes.

She further recommended that two speed humps be installed in 12th Avenue, Belmont Park, between Denne and Van Der Bijl streets because of the proximity to Eben Donges High School and a train station.

“These amenities have a potential to attract a significant volume of pedestrian activity along or across the roadway. Therefore, the potential for pedestrian/ vehicle conflict is considered high,” she said.
