The Rust-en-Vrede Gallery and Clay Museum, in Durbanville, is calling on young artists to enter the Junior Portrait Awards.
The competition was launched last year and opened to Cape Town high schools, according to organiser Kelisha Persotham.
“We have decided to continue with the Junior Portrait Awards in 2024. This time, we are excited to announce that entries will be open to all South African high school learners from the ages of 16 to 18,” she said.
The top-three winners - to be announced on Saturday June 29 - will get art hampers and a chance to join workshops by artist Jo Roets.
Last year’s winner Malini Mistry said: “I love painting portraits because it allows you to really see people. My portrait, Happier, is a self-portrait in acrylic on canvas, in which I looked at colour and expression.”
Entry is free. Work can be submitted online from Monday May 27 to Sunday June 2.
Visit the Rust-en-Vrede website from the first week in February for guidelines and submission instructions.
