City renovates dam

Access to Durbanville’s Sonstraal Dam will be limited until May while maintenance work and renovations are done, says the City. The work includes infilling of the crest and right abutment; installation of riprap on the upstream slope of the embankment and water-level measuring gauges; repair of concrete cracks in the spillway and training walls; demolition of a section of the existing spillway channel; and construction of a new spillway outfall channel and gabions to protect the left embankment from erosion.
