A City law enforcement officer arrested a man, 24, for outstanding fines totalling R374 300.
The mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said at 9.40am on Tuesday, the officer’s in-vehicle camera flagged a minibus taxi in Voortrekker Road, Parow, after scanning the numberplate of the taxi.
He said the man had over 50 outstanding warrants of arrests in his name and his vehicle was impounded, as he did not have a valid driver’s licence.
“This is an example of how we are putting technology to use to catch law-breakers. Let this serve as a reminder to scofflaws that they are not untraceable,” he said.
The suspect was expected to appear in the Parow Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
