A man was arrested and his delivery vehicle confiscated on a charge of possession of abalone on Monday in Durbanville, police say.
The police officers were busy with patrols when they were informed about a light delivery vehicle that was transporting abalone to an address in Durbanville, according to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.
“The members spotted the vehicle parked in Cobble Walk at around 12.50pm. They approached the vehicle and ensued with a search which resulted in the recovery of 6 332 units of abalone with an estimated street value of R 1.5 million,” he said.
Warrant Officer Swartbooi said the suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once charged.
