As part of Mandela Month, Durbanville non-profit organisation, Mosselbank River Conservation Team, spent their 6th Mandela Day on Saturday by cleaning the dumping sites around Mosselbank River, preparing the planting beds and planting various vegetables and herbs in their food garden.

The food garden space was previously an illegal dumping hot spot and was adopted to be a food garden, according to Danielle Cronje , the director of Mosselbank River Conservation Team (MRCT).

She said 30 volunteers joined the event and the food grown in the garden is usually given to the team and the community at large.

The volunteers filled 12 bags when they were cleaning the nearby illegal dumping sites, she said.

After the activities at Mosselbank River, some of the volunteers went to assist Elizabeth Maans with her soup kitchen, Lizzy's Soup Kitchen, by feeding around 200 residents in Greenville, Ms Cronje said.
