A Kuils River man launched a website at the beginning of this month with the intention to keep comprehensive information about Kuils River in one place.
Aldrich Burmeister, 52, from Silver Oaks said he saw a need in 2010 for a centralised resource to bring information together about events, local businesses, civic organisations, and sport clubs. Last year he started working on website that would do that.
“I set out to learn how to create a basic website that would serve as a digital hub for our town. After a year of research into Kuils River's history, faith-based institutions, sports teams, and municipal contacts, I began compiling the information needed to develop the site,” he said.
Despite the presence of several social media pages that are offering different things to the Kuils River community, the need for a unified community-driven online platform remained, he said.
He said the initial launch was planned for the beginning of May this year but the site was hacked during testing and became unrecoverable.
“It was a devastating setback but the experience taught me a lot,” he said.
The website is live now since Sunday September 1 and it features several key sections: "Home," "About," "What's On," "Business," and "Contact Us."
The "History" sub-section offers insights into Kuils River's past and how the town came to be.
Mr Burmeister said the non-profit and non-governmental organisations can list on the platform free of charge.
