Police are looking for leads to determine the cause of death of three men whose bodies were found in a dam in Wallacedene today, on Monday November 4.

“The bodies of the victims were discovere at around 8:30am at a dam on a farm in Botfontein Road, with fatal injuries reminiscent of an act of vigilantism,” said police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut.

Colonel Traut confirmed to Northern News that the deceased men were set alight.

“An autopsy which is yet to be performed by the Department of Health will determine the exact cause of death. We can, however, confirm that they were set alight,” he told Northern News.

Western Cape MEC of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, said: “Vigilantism must never be condoned and is not the answer to the scourge of crime.

“I want to urge our communities not to take the law into their own hands, despite how frustrated and angry our residents are about the unacceptably high levels of crime in many communities. Those who do resort to vigilantism become part of the problem.”

The pictures of the deceased men, obtained by Northern News, showed charred bodies of the men lying around the garbage waste near the dam.
