Top matriculants honoured with awards

Premier Alan Winde and Education MEC David Maynier hosted the Western Cape National Senior Certificate 2024 Awards Ceremony at Leeuwenhof, the premier’s residence, on Thursday January 30.

The event celebrated the outstanding achievement of candidates and schools in the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations.

In pictures are the top candidates from the northern suburbs.

Niel Johannes van der Colff from Hoërskool Tygerberg in Parow was among two candidates who received an award for having the highest mark in music. The candidates each received R10 000 and a certificate in this category.

The awards to the schools were as following:

• Scottsdene Secondary School was in the fourth position of the top-ten public schools with 30 or more candidates that have shown the greatest improvement in pass rate over the period 2022 to 2024. The criteria also included consistency in the number of matric candidates over the three-year period from 2022 to 2024.

• Brackenfell High School was in the fourth position of the top-five public schools that had 80 or more candidates that have shown the greatest increase in the pass rate when the 2024 pass rate is compared with the 2023 pass rate, as well as an increase in the number of candidates from 2023 to 2024.

• Monument Park High School was awarded for being a school that showed improvement in the English home language in 2024 compared to their subject average in 2023.

• Hoërskool Bellville High School was awarded for having a consistent pass rate of 95% or more over the past five years (2020-2024).
