A 49-year-old sergeant, stationed at Durbanville police station, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly reselling the services of Waka TV without authorisation, police said.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said commercial crime unit detectives and MultiChoice Group, obtained a search warrant to search a house in Berlios Street, Paarl and arrested the police sergeant.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a reseller of Waka TV, which includes DStv channels without authorisation.
“At the premises the members confiscated one cellular telephone and one laptop, which were handed in as exhibits and form part of the investigation. The sale of the login credentials to access the channels illegally is estimated at a substantial amount. The investigation into the matter continues,” Sergeant Twigg said.
The suspect was expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court once charged.
