Badisa, a non-profit organisation based in Bellville, worked together with renowned Afrikaans artist Jak de Priester to release Jy is Special, a song that aims to bring hope to vulnerable children.
The song was written for Kuumba Care, a Badisa campaign that focuses on child protection and has a colourful mascot called Kuumba.
The lyrics of the song compare children to natural features like mountains, the sun and flowers.
Speaking about his involvement in the project, De Priester said: “We must remember, children are the future of this country, and the safer and more special they feel, the better they can step into this world and become the leaders of this nation.”
“The name Kuumba originates from the concept of people coming together and using their creativity to improve their communities,” says Annemarie Bezuidenhout, marketing and fundraising director at Badisa.
The song’s official music video can be found on YouTube and it features De Priester together with Kuumba, dancers from Carlene Slayters, Uitsig Primary School pupils, and seniors from Parow Senior Centre.
