Almost 600 cases of vandalism to streetlight infrastructure were reported in Kraaifontein last month.
The 582 cases of service requests received last month were 53% up from the 381 cases that were reported in February, the City of Cape Town said in a statement.
The City’s Energy teams attended to streetlight-related service requests on vandalism hot spot routes in Scottsdene this week.
We previously reported that technicians repaired 47 street light faults along the Botfontein Road alone, from Wednesday October 23 to Tuesday November 5 last year.
“During our recent visit to Scottsdene as part of our streetlight focus repair programme, the Mayor and I witnessed first-hand the extent of the damage caused by these destructive activities,’’ said Xanthea Limberg, mayoral committee member for energy.
The City added that there were 401 cases of street-light vandalism reported in January this year and 361 in December last year in Kraaifontein.
“We encourage all residents to report any instances of vandalism and illegal connections to the City,’’ Ms Limberg said.
You can report suspicious behaviour to the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre at 021 480 7700.
