Police investigate two separate accidents on Bottelary Road in Brackenfell

Brackenfell police are investigating circumstances surrounding two separate accidents that happened on Bottelary Road in Brackenfell, last Friday and Saturday.

In the first accident, on Friday May 23, at around 1.30pm near Café Mambo, Brackenfell police have opened a culpable homicide case for investigation.

According to reports, a bakkie heading in the direction of Brackenfell collided with a private car that was on its way to Kraaifontein while trying to overtake a truck. 

“Three passengers from the bakkie were injured and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. 

“A 50-year-old passenger from the (private car) was declared deceased at the scene by the medical personnel while the driver was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” said Anelisiwe Manyana, the police spokesperson.

In a separate accident, Brackenfell police registered a negligent and reckless driving case for investigation after an accident on Saturday May 24, at about 6pm, also on Bottlelary Road.

“According to reports the LDV (Light Commercial Vehicle) was on its way to the direction of Kraaifontein opposite the palms when an unknown driver of a motorbike drove in front of the LDV resulting in the collision of the two vehicles.  

“The driver of the motorbike sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” Ms Manyana said.

No arrests have been made.

The City of Cape Town previously reported that their emergency centre had recorded 84 accidents in 48 hours, which involved motor vehicles and vehicle-pedestrians, during the weekend of Friday May 9.  

In a separate accident, Brackenfell police registered a negligent and reckless driving case for investigation after a motorbike and a car collided on Bottelary Road.
