Cape Town’s comedy scene is set to sparkle as the highly anticipated Jive Funny Festival returns, bringing together some of the most beloved entertainers.
Brackenfell resident Emo Adams, 47, has expressed excitement to be one of the performers at the upcoming funny festival.
The 26th Jive Cape Town Funny Festival is a comedy show that celebrates local and international talent in the industry.
It will open at the Baxter Theatre on Monday June 2 and runs through until Sunday June 29.
Mr Adams is a South African actor, singer and producer best known for his collaborations with David Kramer and the late Taliep Pietersen, specifically his roles in the musicals District 6: The Musical and Kat & the Kings.
He is originally from Mitchells Plain but is currently residing in Brackenfell.
Mr Adams will be performing with his brother Loukmaan on every performance from Tuesday June 3 until Sunday June 29 at the Baxter Theatre, according to Eddy Cassar, the organizer.
He is the younger sibling of only two sons and his childhood years were filled with the sound of harmonies and songs, influenced by his musically inclined father and the musical talent of his elder brother.
He said: “We mix comedy with music because, at heart, we are a musical family. We have found ways and means to incorporate humor, dancing and fun as part of our set. It is also difficult because we have seen many times that we have now done this comedy festival that every night is different for us.
“We feel something different and that is why we have (a support team) with us on stage like guitars, drummers and possibly pianos. That allows us to feel the audience every night.”
He added that they have all elements that are needed to give an enjoyable show.
This year's festival will include Sweden’s Got Talent winner, Charlie Caper and multi-award winning, Cirque du Soleil clown sensation, Campagnia Baccala from Italy.
The international performers are joined by South African comics Robby Collins, Kagiso Mokgadi, Alan Committie, Tumi Morake, Dalin Oliver, Emo and Loukmaan Adams, The Big Boys and the winner of the Funny Festival’s talent search, The JiVE Funny Championship.
“I urge all Capetonians who love comedy and the lighter side of life to book their tickets early, and to come and enjoy a wonderful night out in the company of our country’s funniest performers, along with some truly special international acts,” said the mayor of Cape Town Geordon Hill-Lewis.
Tickets are available through webtickets. Generous discounts are offered for groups from ten to a full house (650). Contact Carmen on 021-6857880 for more details.
