Highbury Foundation to host annual youth-day soccer tournament in Kuils River

The Kuils River civic organisation, Highbury Foundation, is set to host their fourth annual Youth Day five-a-side soccer tournament on Monday June 16.

It will take place at the Excelsior Park opposite Soneike High School in Highbury, Kuils River.

There will be three age groups: 12 to 13 years, 14 to 18 and over 18. 

The first six teams to apply in each category will secure their spots. Teams consist of a maximum of seven players, according to Winston Middleton, the organiser of the tournament. 

Mixed male and female teams are encouraged to apply and only takkies will be allowed as matches will be played on the hard court. The match duration is 10 minutes.

Organisers are seeking sponsors to provide shop vouchers for the winners, outstanding players and teams, as well as cash for cold drinks and snack refreshments.

"As soccer is becoming popular among girls, they are encouraged to enter teams for the ladies' section," Mr Middleton said.

The registration will start from 8am and the games will start at 9am.
