Durbanville Children’s Home benefitted from a R150 000 donation from the City’s mayoral fund during a fund-raising event held at Eensgezind Function Venue in Cape Farms, near Durbanville on Saturday, May 31.
This is home to 144 children, aged between 2 and 18 years, from informal settlements, farms, and rural surroundings.
The home’s manager, Johanna Strauss, said: “This funding will go a long way in helping us to provide for the basic needs of the children in our care. We deeply appreciate the City’s continued support of our mission and vision to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can thrive."
The City’s mayoral committee member for corporate services, Theresa Uys, said it was an honour to hand over this generous donation on behalf of the mayor.
“These children are spared exposure to drug abuse, gang violence, poverty, crime, and other social ills. As a City of Hope, we can only hope for the very best for our children’s futures,” she said.
The mayoral fund is an aid to support charitable causes and individuals in need.
