The City will be hosting a session of the Home Composting Programme in Kuils River on Saturday, October 18, at the Van Riebeeck Hall.
This programme provides free home composting containers to residents to encourage them to start composting at home with household organic waste, including fruit and vegetable waste, eggshells, tea bags, and leaves, among others.
“Cutting down on the amount of organic waste that we allow to reach landfills is a sure way to reduce our carbon footprint as a city. Composting food waste at home not only reduces the environmental impact of organic waste, but also feeds your soil and results in a healthier, more productive garden,” said Grant Twigg, the mayoral committee member for urban waste management.
This City said the programme has benefited more than 50 000 residents since it started in 2016, which in turn contributed to reducing the amount of carbon emissions produced at landfills, which contributes to global warming.
Residents need to be homeowners or tenants of a single residence to receive a container, and must be occupying a property that has a secured yard. Bring along a copy of your municipal account and your identity document or passport to the session.
The roll-out session will take place from 8am until noon.
