The Housing Indaba was held on Wednesday, October 8 at the Bellville Presbyterian Church as part of MES’s World Homeless Day initiatives, and brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to discuss safe housing solutions to promote stability for vulnerable families and individuals.

Mould Empower Serve (MES), a non-profit organisation that drives social change by aiming to solve systemic poverty and homelessness, brought together communities in Durbanville, Bellville, and Parow to raise awareness about homelessness.
MES hosted different events to raise awareness, from discussions, health screenings, motivational talks, to accepting donations. The events were part of initiatives centred around World Homeless Day, marked on Friday, October 10, which aims to recognise efforts against homelessness and advocate for better policies and funding that can help prevent and end homelessness.
The first event was the Housing Indaba, held on Wednesday, October 8, in Bellville brought together a group of stakeholders to discuss safe housing solutions to promote stability for vulnerable families and individuals.
The next day, on Thursday, October 9, community members, church representatives, and local police joined the Durbanville MES branch for discussions about homelessness and donated essential items, including food and toiletry packs. In partnership with Tygerberg Hospice health screenings for the homeless clients were provided.
A highlight of the day was a motivational talk by Mrs South Africa finalist, Anita Momberg, who appealed to attendees to take action and support MES’s efforts in combating homelessness and addiction.
On Sunday, October 12, the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District partnered with MES and other organisations to host the 3rd annual “I’ve Got Talent” show at the Parow Civic Centre.
Other events were also held in Gauteng.
Anelle Erasmus, national fundraising and marketing manager at MES, said: “Behind every person experiencing homelessness is a story, a life, and a future worth investing in.
“Our mission is to create sustainable solutions that restore dignity and hope — but we cannot do this alone. We invite communities, businesses, churches, and individuals to walk with us, in solidarity and partnership.”
