Western Cape police, in collaboration with law enforcement and industry partners, seized a massive haul of counterfeit goods worth an estimated R8 million during an operation in Bellville.
The operation, on Thursday, October 23, resulted in the confiscation of counterfeit clothing, footwear, and accessories.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said the counterfeit goods carried the trademarks of recognised international brands.
“While no arrests were made during the operation, investigations are ongoing to trace the supply network and uncover the origin of these illicit goods,” he said.
Western Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, commended the collaborative effort, emphasising that the sale of counterfeit products undermines legitimate business operations, deprives the state of revenue, and often supports organised criminal networks.
Members of the public are urged to report the sale of suspected counterfeit goods to their nearest police station or through the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut says the counterfeit goods carry the trademarks of recognised international brands.
