The City will be testing its geyser ripple-control systems in Kuils River from Monday, October 27 to Friday, November 21.

Ripple-control is a process whereby the City’s energy directorate controls the customers' geysers. The systems were predominantly installed in the metro's eastern suburbs from 1978, and the programme has not been active for some time, according to the City.

In accordance with the regulations, the ripple-control testing checks whether there is a working signal command from the City’s electrical substation points to the residential ripple-controlled geyser, and this test is required as part of maintaining the electrical infrastructure.

In the unlikely event that customers experience problems with water heating after the testing has been completed, they may call the City’s call centre at 0860 103 089.

What selected customers need to know:

• No action is required from affected residential customers.

• Identified ripple-control geysers will be switched on and off remotely by the City between October 27 and November 21.

• Switch off durations will be between 7pm and 9pm from Monday to Friday. The geysers should switch back on from 9pm.

• These affected customers might hear a clicking sound on the load control relay operating box (situated near the electrical distribution board) while the testing is under way.
