The community activists from Kuils River and Kraaifontein were among the Top 30 who received the Influential Men & Women of the Year awards at GrandWest Casino on Saturday, November 8.

The awards were presented by a private company, and recipients had to submit information supporting their influence and impact.

Samuel Theron from Silver Oaks, in Kuils River, was among the Top 30 in Cape Town in the category of men. He is the founder of Cape Word Weavers, a community group that promotes poetry and short-story writing.

“It was amazing to be amongst academics, professionals, and be selected as part of the top 30 for my community work. To be honored and celebrated gives me energy to do more,” he said.

Reverend Tanelle Welff-Dixon, from Scottsville in Kraaifontein, won the award in the category of women.

She is the director of the Tanelle Welff-Ministries and Foundation (TWMF), a faith-based non-profit organisation that focuses on social and restorative justice advocacy, particularly the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), substance abuse, and other community social ills.

“This recognition is not about me. My award goes out to the hundreds of thousands of people of faith who work tirelessly every day in communities across South Africa. They are the unsung heroes. I encourage my fellow clerics to keep on keeping on, doing the good work,” she said.
