The City of Cape Town is calling on residents to have their say on the proposed upgrades to Kruis Road in Brackenfell, between Bottelary Road and Ronelle Street, as part of a new planning and design initiative aimed at improving mobility in the growing area.

According to the City, the surrounding area has seen a surge in development, prompting the need for road infrastructure upgrades to accommodate future traffic and improve safety.

“The area directly surrounding this corridor is experiencing a surge in development. To facilitate the road infrastructure upgrades needed in the vicinity and mitigate the impact of future traffic on the road network, we have initiated the planning and design of this section of Kruis Road,” said Rob Quintas, the mayoral committee member for urban mobility.

He urged residents to review the proposal and share their feedback before Friday, December 12, and added, “The input from our local communities is very valuable in this process.”

To help residents understand the proposed plans, the City will host an information day on Thursday, November 20, from 3pm to 6pm at the Subcouncil 2 municipal office.

The proposed design includes:

  • Upgrading Kruis Road to a dual carriageway between Bottelary Road and Ronelle Street, with a new roundabout at the Ronelle Street intersection.
  • Upgrading the Bottelary Road and Kruis Road intersection.
  • Relocating and upgrading traffic signals at the Bottelary Road intersection to align with the dual carriageway.
  • Adding new facilities for public transport and non-motorised transport users.
