A woman was stabbed and her dog killed during an armed robbery on Signal Hill on Friday afternoon, December 26.
Police spokesperson Captain F.C van Wyk said the incident occurred at about 5pm while the woman was walking her dog along a footpath near the large rocks on Signal Hill.
She was approached by an unknown man wearing a green hoodie and armed with a knife.
"He demanded that the complainant hand over her cellular telephone, and he started to stab her. The dog bit the suspect and was also stabbed.
"The suspect grabbed the Apple iPhone cellular telephone and ran away. The complainant’s dog died due to a stab wound. She sustained a stab wound to her left arm. Investigations continue, no arrest as yet," said Captain van Wyk.
The case has been registered at Cape Town Central police station as a robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.
The South African National Parks (SANParks) confirmed that the attack occurred on the lower slopes of Signal Hill, near the Noon Gun area within Table Mountain National Park.
SANParks has called on visitors and residents to avoid the area for the time being and to remain vigilant, particularly around Signal Hill, Tamboerskloof, and Bo-Kaap.
The entity said it is working closely with police and the City's law enforcement, with visible patrols and aerial surveillance increased to support the investigation and ensure public safety.
