The Zimele and the Enable Initiative non-profits are hosting an open-air movie night at the Bishops Diocesan College on Saturday February 7.

The movie that will be featured is The Upside (2017), starring American actors Bryan Cranston as a wealthy paraplegic, Phillip Lacasse, who hires an unexpected caregiver, Dell, portrayed by Kevin Hart, where they form an unlikely bond and friendship.

The Zimele non-profit, based in Pinelands, provides prosthetic rehabilitation to adult amputees from disadvantaged backgrounds, while the Enable Initiative is the non-profit division of Enable Centre, a private rehabilitation centre offering comprehensive neuro-rehabilitation.

Enable Initiative is the primary fundraising platform that allows Enable Centre’s interdisciplinary team of health professionals to carry out its mission of providing rehabilitation to all through its Equal Access program.

Executive director of Zimele, Dr Sarah Whitehead, said the organisation, along with various non-profits in the disability sector, is always trying to find ways to raise societal awareness about disability and rehabilitation. “We decided that by teaming up and having a joint fundraiser, we could hopefully have a bigger impact and raise more money,” she said.

The film will be screened on a large-scale mobile cinema system that accommodates up to 1000 attendees, complete with ambient lighting and full audio setup.

There will be various foods on sale from vendors.

Visitors can also enter the lucky draw to win prizes, including a luxury stay at a hotel, a paragliding adventure, and a wine farm experience

The movie night will take place at Bishops, at 65 Campground Road, Rondebosch, on Saturday, February 7, from 5 pm.

Tickets cost R100 and can be purchased on Quicket. For more information ,email Dr Whitehead at sarah@zimelenpc.org.za
