The reopening of Bellville Library has been delayed due to ongoing repairs to stolen cables, the City says.
Electricity to the building was disrupted following a cable theft incident in late December. While repairs were initially expected to be completed in time for the library to reopen on Monday, January 12, 2026, unforeseen delays have pushed the reopening to Monday, January 19.
The library has been closed since December 29 last year, after cable thieves struck the building, leaving it without an electricity supply.
The City apologised for any inconvenience caused by the extended closure. In the meantime, residents and library patrons have been advised to make use of nearby libraries, including those in Tygervalley, Brackenfell, Kraaifontein, Durbanville and Parow.
