Road rehabilitation work has commenced along La Belle Road between Strand Road and Willow Street in Stikland, Bellville, says the City of Cape Town.
According to the City’s Urban Mobility Directorate, construction started on Monday, January 12, and is expected to continue until Friday, July 31, weather permitting and subject to unforeseen delays. Work will take place from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
Mayoral committee member for urban mobility, Roberto Quintas, said the project was necessary due to the poor condition of the road and forms part of the City’s efforts to improve transport infrastructure.
"These improvements form part of ongoing efforts to keep Cape Town moving. Once completed, the project will deliver a safer, more reliable road, improved stormwater infrastructure and upgraded sidewalks."
The project includes rehabilitation of the existing pavement layers, repairs to sidewalks, realignment and replacement of kerbs and channels where needed, and the reinstatement of road markings once construction is complete.
Motorists are advised to expect congestion in the area and are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible. Road users are encouraged to exercise caution, reduce speed, observe signage, remain alert for uneven surfaces, and follow instructions from flag personnel while construction is underway.
