Three suspects aged between 30 and 35 were arrested in Ravensmead on Tuesday morning, January 13, after police recovered drugs, liquor and cash during an operation in the area.
Members attached to Operation Shanela II acted on information about drugs allegedly being sold from a residence in Beulah Court, according to Captain FC van Wyk, the police spokesperson.
"They operationalised the information and approached the mentioned house, upon which a search ensued. Their persistence paid off when they recovered a consignment of drugs, including tik, mandrax tablets, cocaine, several liquors and beers, and an undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime," said Captain van Wyk.
Police said that as the suspects were being escorted to police vehicles, they incited residents in the courtyard to throw stones at officers. No police members were injured, and no police vehicles were damaged during the incident.
The suspects were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs, possession of drugs, dealing in liquor without a licence, and attacking police.
The suspects were expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
