Police have opened a murder case following the fatal shooting of a delivery vehicle driver in Wallacedene, Kraaifontein, on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at around 5:50am on Saturday, January 24, in Boesak Street, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
"Police members were called to the crime scene where they found the victim with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel," said Sergeant Twigg.
He added that the victim was reportedly approached by unknown suspects who robbed and shot him before fleeing the scene.
Northern News learnt from a well-placed source that the driver was delivering bread to a local spaza shop at the time of the incident.
The Kraaifontein Community Police Forum (CPF) has condemned the killing, describing it as a “sad and unacceptable incident”.
CPF deputy chairperson Gavin Riddles said the forum was deeply concerned about the loss of life and called on police to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
"Our campaign is to reduce this type of violence, especially in the Wallacedene area, and we are trying to prevent the community from taking the law into their own hands due to this. Boendoe Courts previously spiraled out of control and led to the deaths of a few criminals."
Mr Riddles further appealed to the residents to work closely with the police and local safety organisations to help combat robberies and violent crime in the community.
