Cape Town’s third Covid-19 field hospital, located in a Brackenfell business park, welcomed 10 of its first patients yesterday.
Brackengate Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) can accommodate about 338 patients with moderate Covid 19 symptoms and breathing difficulties, according to the provincial Department of Health.
Bad weather had delayed the opening by almost two weeks.
Dr Barry Smith, CEO of the Brackengate ICF, said: “It was a proud moment to receive the first patients at Brackengate ICF. It is truly remarkable to have witnessed an empty warehouse being converted into a state-of-the-art field hospital and today welcoming the first patients. As a team of dedicated health-care workers, we are determined to deliver a high standard of care in this space in the fight against Covid 19.”
