Materials worth R1 000 were stolen from a classroom at Eikendal Primary School during a burglary last week.
Millicent Merton, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) confirmed the burglary took place on Wednesday night, March 29.
“The alarm was triggered and the security company responded. Reams of paper, toilet paper and stationery were stolen from one of the classrooms. The incident was reported to the local police station,” said Ms Merton.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed that the case was reported and the stolen materials were worth R1000.
Kraaifontein activist, Kwayo Louw, believes the community must take responsibility for the role they play in the crimes.
“It is very sad because at the end of the day, we as a community, we need to protect our schools but we are the people who are buying the stolen stuff.
“We are creating a platform for these criminals. While we are buying they will not stop because they have a market. We are just as good as drug dealers, because that one breaking in is (likely) doing it for drugs and we are supplying them with the money.
