The City has warned of possible disruptions to the water supply in the northern suburbs. File Picture: African News Agency (ANA).
Parts of the northern suburbs can expect water-supply disruptions this week due to maintenance work and testing, says the City.
Zero-pressure tests will be done on the water-supply main to Soneike 1, Soneike 2 and Soneike Mall as well as Gladioli Street, Joli Drive, Grayling Street and Piet My Vrou Street in Kuils River, until 10am on Wednesday, said a City statement.
Lower water pressure may be expected during this period. The tests will provide an indication of how best to divert water to these areas when the stormwater system is upgraded as part of the expansion of the Amandel bridge in the next few weeks, the City said.
The water supply network at the bridge had already been upgraded to accommodate the bridge expansion and the tests would provide options to reduce water-supply disruptions during that project.
Zero pressure tests will be done on the main water supply to Oakdale, Bellville Park, Ridgeworth, Willowbridge and Tygervalley, which will disrupt the water supply on Wednesday from 9pm overnight until 4am on Thursday.
Zero pressure tests will also be conducted on the main water supply to Sonstraal Heights, Vredekloof Heights and Belami Ridge, which will result in the disruption of the water supply in these areas on Thursday from 9pm overnight until 4am on Friday.
“Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, resulting in it taking longer,” the City said, adding that the water might look discoloured for a short while after supply was restored due to trapped air in the pipes.
