Tinkies Feeding Kuils River serves meals to about 300 children and about 350 adults three times a week.
A Kuils River feeding scheme is appealing for contributions so it can serve a hot meal and give gifts to the needy in the community on Christmas Day.
Tinkies Feeding Kuils River is run by Jozeen Dreyer, who has been feeding the community for more than 10 years.
The number of people helped by the scheme had swelled after Covid more than two years ago, Ms Dreyer said, adding that she liked to do something special for the needy on Christmas Day.
According to Ms Dryer, the scheme feeds about 300 children and about 350 adults on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, funded from her own pocket and sponsors.
“This year, I know a lot of people will not have something to eat. That is why I want to have a special lunch with all of them because the Holy Spirit keeps telling me to feed on the 25th of December. And I am just one person who listens when the Holy Spirit speaks to me. I have to be obedient,” she said.
“My heart will tear apart if I must enjoy Christmas and know that some of my big community family do not have something to eat.”
A volunteer for the organisation, Jeroldine Edwards, said: “These initiatives are important, particularly on Christmas Day, because there are so many people who do not have family and a meal. What I have decided to do is that I am going to give up my Christmas afternoon to serve those community members.
“We might not have the power to change everything for everybody, but a smile to one child will make a difference - that is why I am involved.”
