A Kuils River community worker has called on runners and walkers to take care following the fatal stabbing of a jogger in Saxdown Road, Summerville on Saturday morning.
Witnesses saw the jogger being robbed by three people on Saturday December 17, and after the victim refused to hand over his cellphone and other belongings, the ssailants stabbed him to death.
A picture, which Northern News has in its possession, shows the victim lying face down, with blood all over his thighs. He was wearing a white shorts, navy blue jacket and blue running shoes.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said the circumstances surrounding an incident were still under investigation.
“Mfuleni police attended a crime scene at around 6.30am,” he told Northern News. “Upon arrival, they found the body of a 45-year-old man who sustained multiple stab wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
Kuils River activist, Latifah Jacobs, said the area was known for robberies and cautioned people to be careful.
“The issue of robbing is a regular thing in Kuils River and Summerville. We want people who go for morning walks and runs to be aware about these incidents so that they do not to become victims.”
